Hayley Morrison was born in the West Indies on the island of Barbados. After completing high school in Canada, Hayley is presently a third year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. Hayley is double majoring in Ethics, Society and Law and Political Science and minoring in Sociology. She is studying courses examining the structure of Canadian government, the sociological perspective of law and the role of courts in both Canada and Europe. Hayley is undertaking her degree to pursue a career as a politically active journalist. Hayley is presently the news editor and one of the news writers for The Mike paper, a bi-weekly campus paper. She is also a freelancer news writer for another University of Toronto campus paper, The Varsity. For both papers, Hayley has produced articles covering terrorism in South East Asia, and dictatorships in Zimbabwe, Uganda and North Korea. Hayley has also provided commentary on the AIDS situation, the resignation of Kofi Annan and the Saddam Hussein verdict. Hayley also works as a media relations officer for the student organization STAND (Students Taking Action Now Darfur). With STAND she has been in charge of generating student awareness and advocacy through campus media and other external sources. Hayley is also a member of the Canadian Journalist’s for Free Expression in order to promote greater journalistic freedom.
